Match Report: Great week for VCF, back to winning ways (2-0)
Valencia CF versus Athletic Bilbao on Sunday at 8:45 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on matchday 26 of LaLiga Santander. Valencia CF had a slow start with Athletic having a tad more of the ball in the first minute of the first half. Daniel Wass had the first shot on target in the 13th minute with a right footed shot which went just wide of the target.
Valencia CF had more of the ball as the half went on but the first half between Valencia CF and Athletic Club finished in a 0-0 draw at Mestalla at half-time with nothing to separate the teams and all to play for in the second half.
Valencia CF came out looking to score and they did four minutes inside the second half through Rodrigo who volleyed Valencia CF in front with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box past the keeper following a great exchange with fellow striker Santi Mina.
Moments later, Daniel Wass sent a free kick high and wide. Geoffrey Kondogbia sent a free header wide at the back post. Kevin Gameiro met Neto’s goal kick with a cross-strike which went wide of the target.
Kevin Gameiro doubled the lead for VCF tapping in a low cross from the right wing right at the death of regulation time Rodrigo Moreno and Gameiro’s strikes fire Valencia CF up the table within sight of European positions ahead of Betis and Real Sociedad. Valencia CF will be back in Europa League action at home against Kuban Krasnodar in the first leg of the last 16 at 6:55 pm kick-off time.
